MAC Transition Update
As you are probably aware, Cahaba GBA was awarded the Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) contract for Jurisdiction 10 which includes Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. This is very fortunate for most Alabama hospitals as there will be very little impact in Medicare business for the current Cahaba Part A providers. However, we would like you to be aware of the special section of the Cahaba website dedicated to information on the A/B MAC transition and encourage you to check this webpage for any updates that might affect you. Please see below for an excerpt from the FAQ section of this webpage – it includes several important links including links to the J10 webpage.
We also want to let you know that MMP will be reviewing the consolidated Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs) and will make our clients aware of any changes.
Cahaba GBA Website – J10 Transition FAQ
1.What are the differences between a MAC and an FI? Will Alabama Part A providers be making changes too?
The claims administration workload for each A/B MAC is awarded through full and open competition conducted in accordance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation. The A/B MAC contracts are for the administration of both Medicare Part A and Part B claims in a specific geographic jurisdiction, whereas an FI contract was for the administration of Medicare Part A only and the Carrier contract was for the administration of Medicare Part B only. For other differences between MAC and FI, we encourage you to visit the CMS website at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/.
We expect a seamless transition with minimal impact for our current Alabama Part A providers. However, Alabama Part A submitters will need to change contractor IDs in the 837I claims and 835 ERA files and connect to our new Secure FTP server for sending and receiving batch transactions. Alabama Part A providers will notice consolidation of Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs). As we identify any additional changes impacting our Alabama A providers, we will communicate the information through the J10 transition website, the Cahaba Listserv and during all J10 educational events. For further information please see the Medicare A/B Newsline Special Bulletin for Alabama A/B providers and Georgia B providers on our J10 Transition webpage.
