The American Case Management Association’s (ACMA) mission is “to be THE association for Hospital / Health System Case Management Professionals.” One of their goals in fulfilling this mission is to “influence the policies, laws and other issue related to the practice of Case Management.”
In a March 5, 2010 Case Management Mentor blog Ben Amirault reported that Greg Cunningham, CEO of the ACMA recently met with CMS officials to discuss the findings from a survey that the ACMA had conducted regarding the second Important Message from Medicare (IM).
Per the survey, the majority of the respondents reported that case management is responsible for issuing the second notice. Further, of the respondents that track compliance only 40% reported a compliance rate between 76% and 100%.
At MMP, Inc. tracking compliance with delivering the second notice is part of our Clinical Services Review. Over the last four quarters our client’s provided the second IM anywhere from 100% to 0% with the overall average being 44%.
Per the blog “CMS officials asked the association to gather a prioritized list of the most pressing concerns about the delivery of the second IM. The ACMA and CMS will then work together to address the 10 most pressing issued.” The ACMA plans to have a forum specific to this topic at their National Conference in San Antonia Texas on April 10, 2010.
The ACMA is accepting feedback. To read the entire blog go to:
