Case Mix (CMI) Studies
Case Mix Index (CMI) is the sum of all Medicare DRG relative weights divided by the total number of Medicare cases. The CMI reflects the complexity of patient types treated at a hospital and is a driving force of hospital reimbursement.
What This Service Includes
Certified coding professionals perform a confidential and in-depth analysis of a client’s CMI. This analysis is primarily designed to identify opportunities for:
- Accurate ICD-9-CM and DRG assignment
- Tracking trends in patient mix
- Legitimate reimbursement
- Continuing education
- Accurate and sustained CMI
Additionally, since coding is just one factor that affects a hospital’s CMI, we will assess other factors that may be impacting outcomes, such as physician documentation and the intensity of services provided.
How You Can Benefit From This Service
By benchmarking coding performance, identifying documentation concerns, reviewing targeted DRGs and categorizing common coding errors MMP is able to provide hospitals with:
- Potential CMI improvement
- Support on-going compliance processes
